Indian cricket great Sunil Gavaskar became the center of a controversy on Friday when his remarks, while commentating in RCB vs KXIP, about Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were taken negatively by the cricketer’s wife.
“It’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?” Anushka said.
Gavaskar was commentating in the IPL 2020 match where he said, “Ab joh lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki unhone, wo video dekhi hai (referring to a viral video), use to kuch nahi hona hai. (During the recent lockdown he only practiced to Anushka’s bowling, I saw a video. But that is not going to be enough.)”

Gavaskar said that referring to a recent video clip which went viral after being posted on a fan page of Virat Kohli. In the said clip, Kohli can be clearly seen bowling to his wife Anushka Sharma before he took to the stumps. In the latter part of the video, Anushka is bowling to Virat.

Gavaskar’s remarks, however, weren’t taken well by Virat’s fans and some even urged to BCCI to remove the maestro from IPL 2020 commentary panel.
Even Anushka was furious over Gavaskar’s comment and posted to her instagram: “Mr. Gavaskar your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband’s game? I am sure over the years you have respected the private lines of every cricketer while commentating on the game.”
Where things are going to go from here, you never know. However, it did ignite sort of a controversy and Anushka looked aggressive in countering Gavaskar’s comments.
