With cricket still in a standstill amid novel coronavirus crisis, former Australian great Dean Jones has suggests a venue-shift to make ICC T20 World Cup 2020 possible.
Dean Jones believes that the mega event can still go ahead as per schedule if the ICC takes its call now and shifts the venue to New Zealand. We have seen New Zealand battling successfully against the virus and there’s just one positive case remaining there.
The country didn’t report any new cases in last 14 days and the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is looking forward to easing down the social distancing measures with the country in alert level 1 now. This means the social distancing instructions will be eased now but the border restrictions will remain in place.
“Jacinda Ardern said NZ could move to alert level 1 next week, which means all social distancing measures and curbs on mass gatherings will be lifted, she said. Maybe play the T20 WC there? #justathought,” Dean Jones tweeted.
Even though ICC’s final verdict on the future of the tournament is yet to arrive, it’s highly likely that the tournament won’t go ahead in Australia, at least. Let’s wait and watch how the things settle in the end.
