The history of Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League has been miserable by all means. They have hardly won a handful of matches yet in all the four seasons of the event and would like a serious turn-around of fate in order to be competitive in the tournament as they head into PSL 2020. Even though they have produced a few good players over these past few seasons and the individuals have also represented the Pakistan national side too, they couldn’t really pull up a team effort that could lead them to the victory stand. Are we going to see any major changes in PSL 2020 Lahore Qalandars Squad? Let’s find out.

PSL 2020 Lahore Qalandars Squad
Having replaced a few captains during last year’s PSL, the franchise was lead by the flamboyant left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman during their final stint at the PSL 4. Now, the big question is if they’d continue with that decision or some change is on the cards. To be honest, we do not have any official word yet but we suspect that we’ll have a new face leading the side as we get into the PSL 5.
The news floating around is that the Qalandars have decided to retain Salman Butt for the next season of PSL. The left-handed opener, and the former captain, has been impressive ever since his return to international cricket after the spot-fixing scandal and consequent sentence. How he’ll add to the worth of his franchise in the upcoming season is yet to be seen though.
The Pakistan Super League 2020 draft is scheduled in November this year and the tournament will get underway on 20th of February next year. So, we have a lot of time until then and the management will definitely ponder over the matter before the team finally participates in the tournament.
Besides the decision on captaincy, is it time for another major overhaul for Lahore Qalandars? Let’s find out what players they went with during the PSL 2019.
PSL 2019 Lahore Qalandars Squad
The biggest pick for the Lahore Qalandars last year was the former South African captain AB de Villiers. They also picked Mohammad Hafeez who was previously playing for Peshawar Zalmi. Carlos Brathwaite and Corey Anderson were available only partially during the season. And it was Yasir Shah besides them who made the last Diamond pick. Most probably, they’ll stick with Hafeez and Fakhar Zaman on top for this season as well.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was their Silver pick for the season along with Sohail Akhtar and Haris Sohail who are all names worth mentioning. In fact, Shaheen has made his case later during the ICC Cricket World Cup and would be highly likely to be retained for the PSL 5. He was even picked in the BBL lately and has impressed a lot with his recent performances.
Lahore had also picked David Weise and Hardus Viljoen for the period when Corey Anderson and Carlos Brathwaite were not available. So, it will be interesting to see if they can stick to players available to them full time during the 2020 PSL or they’ll have to make such trade-offs once again.
What do you make of these speculations about who will stay with Lahore Qalandars in 2020 Pakistan Super League and who will not? Do you think any of this is going to stay like that when we have the PSL 2020 draft in November? Well, we’ll only find that out once everything has been finalized and the squads have been announced. Until then, please stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted with all the updates coming up.
