Multan Sultans was the 6th franchise added to the mix only a couple of years back. However, they haven’t yet been up to the mark and they couldn’t really perform at their best in the tournament so far. The team finished on the 5th spot just above Lahore Qalandars in both the seasons they have participated in. Now, does that call for a reshuffle in PSL 2020 Multan Sultans squad picks? Well, that’s on the management of the team as to what they decide moving forward. But here we have everything you need to find out about how the team will shape up in the PSL 5.

PSL 2020 Multan Sultans Squad
The final word is not out yet but we’ll expectedly see a change in captaincy as we get into the next season of Pakistan Super League. Shoaib Malik has been leading the side up until now and could only lead them to victory in 7 games yet with 12 losses to his account.
But that’s not the official word and it’s just what we believe is going to happen ahead of the PSL season 5. If Shahid Afridi stays with the Sultans, we might expect the veteran to be given the chance to lead them into the next season hoping for some miraculous change to happen in their performances.
Let’s find out which players the franchise banked on in the last season and if they’d be willing to retain some of them moving into the PSL 2020.
PSL 2019 Multan Sultans Squad
In the last season of Pakistan Super League, Multan Sultans’ platinum picks included Andre Russell, Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi. And, we expect them to retain Russell and Afridi while Malik might have to look to other franchises to pick him for the next season, especially after him having a dismal run in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. But we haven’t seen him play in many T20Is lately and if he gets a chance to show his caliber in the run up to the event, we might see the management deciding to stick with him. There’s a lot of time left yet, and we never know what can happen.
They also had a couple of good openers on top including James Vince and Shan Masood. However, Masood doesn’t really fit in when it comes to the T20 cricket and we hope that Sultans’ management would have realized that until now. Johnson Charles, who was already their gold pick in the last season, could justify the top spot very well and we can expect him to stay the part of this team moving forward too.
Sultans might also want some real firepower in their bowling department too as we didn’t see many wicket-taking options in there. Especially, with Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Abbas being their leading pacers and Daniel Christian filling in the gaps where needed, some speedster or a real magician is actually what they need.
If Multan Sultans really have to make a mark on the PSL scene this time around, they might need a major overhaul. And, one is very much on the cards too. Let’s see how their management responds to the need during the PSL 2020 draft in November. Until then, stay tuned and we’ll keep updating you as some and when something comes up.
