Pakistan becomes the first finalists in the Emerging Asia Cup defeating India in a nail-biter by just 3 runs.
Pakistan’s superb run continues in the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup as they make inroads into the Final of the tournament by defeating arch-rivals India in the Semi-Final by only 3 runs.
It was a team effort with the bat that helped them post a massive target of 268 in 50 overs with everyone coming to the party. The openers Omair Yousuf and Haider Ali were splendid with their 90 runs opening stand as they went on to score 66 and 43 respectively. In the middle order, consolidating performances came from the captain Rohail Nazir who scored 35 from 41 balls and Saif Badar who struck an unbeaten 47 going at almost a run a ball. Imran Rafiq played a handy knock of 30-ball 28 towards the end too.
Almost all the Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners with Mavi, Dubey, and Shokeen picking up 2 wickets each and Desai taking a single scalp.
India had a decent start with the openers putting together 43 on the board before Pakistan’s pace ace Mohammad Hasnain removed Aryan Juyal with a gem of a delivery. However, the captain Sharath kept his cool and continued with Sanvir Singh who then when on to score the highest score from the Indian camp getting 76 from 90 balls before he got run out. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any solid performance from anyone in the middle and lower-middle order with only Arman Jaffer getting into the 40s. Sutar remained unbeaten on 28 leaving India just 3 runs short in the end.
Pakistani bowlers were expensive too with Mohammad Hasnain leaking the most runs. However, he did manage to pick up 2 crucial wickets too. Saif Badar picked a couple as well while Amad Butt and Umer Khan picked a wicket a piece.
Pakistan will now face either of Bangladesh or Afghanistan in the Final of the tournament on 23rd November, 2019. The second semifinal will be played tomorrow at Dhaka.
